Vietnam received USD 286 million of NGOs assistance in 2018

BTO- Mr. Bui Thanh Son-Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs cum Chairman of the Committee for International Non-governmental organizations working in Vietnam (INGO) on April 10 chaired over an online meeting over the non-governmental work in 2018 and orientation of 2019.

According to report, there have been 496 non-governmental organizations operating in Vietnam so far. Over the past year, NGOs have supported Vietnam  a total fund of USD286  million in various fields of society, health care, education-training, environment, etc.

NGOs have been conducted their work in accordance with Vietnam Government’s direction and priorities and they have made remarkable contribution to the country’s economic development. Almost all no-governmental organizations have abided by regulations concerning to coordinating and information sharing with their partners in Vietnam. According to report from the department of Planning and Investment of Binh Thuan province, as of 2018, there have been 24 international non-governmental organizations operating in the province with full permission. Among them, 9 NGOs are implementing 14 programs, projects with the total fund of USD 3.476.321 million in Ham Thuan Bac, Ham Thuan Nam, Duc Linh and Phan Thiet city. Last year, Binh Thuan received 3 aid programs from NGOs with a total financial fund of USD 1.56.326 million, a 2.3 time-increase compared with that of 2017.Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Bui Thanh Son highly appreciated work relating to foreign NGOs in 2018, saying that the  NGOs’ programs have promoted their effectiveness and closely worked  with central and local agencies, contributing to boosting national socioeconomic development. Mr. Son indicated 3 major outcomes made by foreign NGOs work. Firstly, Vietnam has maintained stable foreign aid sources despite many international changes. Secondly, the management on foreign organizations and foreign NGOs assistant funds has effectively served 3 main factors: well meeting socioeconomic demand, ensuring national security, and ensuring requirements on political and foreign relations. Thirdly, ministries, sectors and localities have paid special attention to foreign NGOs work, so the cooperation between them has brought the best results.

In conclusion, deputy Minister Bui Thanh Son asked ministries, departments and localities to closely follow their missions, especially focus on the implementation of resolutions, policies of the Party and the State on foreign NGOs; intensify state management, information exchange and cooperation among functional departments.
