Province’s leaders met with Socodevi delegation

BTO – On March 8th afternoon, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Pham Van Nam and leaders of local departments and agencies welcomed SOCODEVI delegation led by Maxime Prud’homme – representative of the SOCODEVI in Vietnam  as well as co-Manager of VCED project.

As known, VCED project was approved and sponsored by the government of Canada with the total cost of over USD 9 billion. It is conducted in some provinces of Soc Trang, Lam Dong, Ben Tre, Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan from 2015 to 2020. Its purposes is to convert the Vietnam’s Cooperative sector to improve its competitiveness and increase its contribution to the sector for sustainable economic growth and livelihood improvement at household level.

VCED project is also pledged to support Binh Thuan and stakeholders in building a strategic scheme for a unique market-oriented cooperative, Mr. Maxime Prud’homme said at the working session. In addition, Binh Thuan is required to cooperative with the project for the only-of-its kind-cooperative, which has a large number of effective members (those are dragon fruit farmers).

Mr. Maxime Prud’homme expected the locality would establish a sustainable cooperative which is market-oriented, competitive and gender equitable for the value chain of dragon fruit.

Vice chairman Pham Van Nam delivered great thanks to the SOCODEVI delegation for their attention, support and implementation of VCED project in Binh Thuan. Vice chairman urged the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to work with functional authorities and figure out specific tasks as soon as possible for the best implementation of project.
