Ocean Cleanup Campaign launched in Binh Thuan

BTO- A campaign calling for widespread action to clean up the Ocean has been launched by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Sub-department of Seas and Islands in Ham Tan district, Binh Thuan province. The event has attracted nearly 500 cadres and soldiers of the provincial Border guard Command, Thu Duc jail and youth of Ham Tan district.

The activity aims to respond to the World Environment Day (June 5) and the World Oceans Day (June 8) and the National Sea and Island Week 2019, in an effort of raise public awareness of environmental issues, as well as climate change and its effects on Vietnam.

Mr. Do Van Thai – Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment called upon the community, authorities at all levels, youngsters, island-lovers to join hand to protect, preserve and regenerate the natural resource and marine environment. It is expected that the activity atmosphere will be spread wide and get the engagement of people from all walk of life, especially the fishermen. In addition, the campaign urges people to limit the use of single-use plastic bags, and plastic products; not discharge plastic products on the beach and the ocean.

After the launching ceremony, hundreds of staffs and Youth union members, local residents cleaned up and kept the Ho Lan beach tidy.
