Binh Thuan to beef up consumption of dragon fruit and other advantageous products in Hanoi

BTO –Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Huynh Thanh Canh and vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee of Binh Thuan province recently led a business delegation to Hanoi capital for the implementation of a trade relations programme  to promote the consumption of dragon fruit and other products of Binh Thuan in Hanoi. Binh Thuan’s delegation attended working session with  Deputy Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, vice chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu and representatives of functional agencies and enterprises in Hanoi.

In comparison with other provinces and cities, Hanoi capital, with itsgeographical vantage point, enjoys a favourable position for trade development. The capital city has a total natural area of 3,348.5 square kilometer and a population of 7.3 million people, apart from 2.7 million people travelling from and to Hanoi for business, study and vacation. The monthly demands for agricultural products of Hanoi residents include  52,000 tons of fresh fruits, 83,300 tons of vegetables, 5,000 tons of seafood, 82,600 tons of rice… So that, Hanoi is one of the largest markets for agricultural and marine products, as well as an intermediate site for goods distribution to other regions in the country.

Leaders of Hanoi and Binh Thuan province acknowledged that dragon fruit and many specialities of Binh Thuan province have not promoted well in Hanoi markets due to lack of promotional programmes and dissemination so that Hanoi people get aquainted with high-quality goods produced in Binh Thuan such as: dragon fruit, fishsauce, sterculia foetida latex …According to reports from Binh Thuan’s Department of Industry and Trade, currently, dragon fruit and some other fruits are on sale at some supermarkets and retail stores in Hanoi such as Vinmart, Big C, …,but with a small quantity (about 5-6 tons permonth).

To surmount such limitation, the authorities of Hanoi and Binh Thuan vowed to keep on implementing thesale promotion programme for  Binh Thuan’s products in Hanoi. Hanoi will continue popularizing Binh Thuan’s products through local television, radio and press agencies; create favourable conditions for Binh Thuan province to organize product promotion programmes, fairs and seminars to introduce its specialities to Hanoi customers. Businesses and units from Binh Thuan will be encouraged to take their products to exhibitions and promotional events opened in Hanoi, as follows: High-quality Vietnamese Goods Fair, Vietnamese Goods Week, Regional Specialities Fair ….

On the other hand, Hanoi will step up the introduction of local enterprises, distributors and retailers so that Binh Thuan’s businesses can set up long-term partnerships to boost consumption for its products in Hanoi. Producers in Binh Thuan should continue expanding production under the standards of ISO, VietGAP, GlobalGAP … in order to enhance products’ quality as well as food safety and hygene. Local enterprises should strengthen their brand names and geographical indications, improving packing designs, providing products’ information (production and packagingprocess, storage and usage) for customers to feel assured when using products.
