Binh Thuan: Tornadoes and heavy rains caused serious damages to many localities

BTO – Many localities across the country have seriously suffered from the extreme weather including drought, tornadoes and heavy rains in late July and early August.

In Binh Thuan province, two districts of Tanh Linh and Duc Linh and neighboring localities have faced heavy rains, strong wind and tornadoes, causing serious damages to properties and destruction of crops.

Critical damages to housing and crops

Although the Storm No.3 did not sweep through Binh Thuan province, it brought about serious consequences to mountainous communes in Duc Linh, Tanh Linh and Ham Thuan Bac district. The heavy rains and tornadoes kept consecutively sweeping away roofs of local houses and cultivated crops.

In the last day of July 2019, the most heaviest rains and tornadoes struck in a wide range of many localities in the mountainous districts of Binh Thuan since 10 years ago. Consequently, more than 100 houses, 15 hectare of cultivated rice, 2 hectares of crops and 25 hectares of rubber trees, durian trees were severely damaged. The total loss was estimated at over 1.1 billions of Vietnamese dongs.

At the same time, the same natural disaster swept through adjacent district of Tanh Linh, causing double loss, equivalent to VND 10 billion, with the destruction of more than 11,000 rubber latex trees, 206 cashew trees, 389 piers of pepper trees. Additionally, 19 hectares area of cultivating rice fields were flooded.

Damage Remedy

On the night of disaster, the authorities has timely encouraged the local residents to move to shelters, minimizing the losses of property. The work of damage remedy are put into focus so as to help people turn into normal activity.
