Phu Quy to step up sea sports development in favour of tourism

BTO- Phu Quy island-Binh Thuan province, located in the middle of the ocean with immense windy beaches, has gradually become an ideal destination for those who are fond of water sports, especially kitesurfing. 

Apart from considerable potentiality for sea economy development, including sea tourism, Phu Quy is favoured by the nature with romantic landscapes and pristine beaches. The island does not only provides recreational services but also attracts so many domestic and international visitors to enjoy thrilling moments with water-based sporting activities such as windsurfing and kitesurfing. When the north easterly monsoon starts, we can easily find numerous visitors walking along the beach of Long Hai with windsurfing equipment. A group of 6 tourists from France shared that, water-skiing in general and kitesurfing in particular are the most popular sports in the European and American countries. Kitesurfing or kiteboarding is an adventurous watersport that consists of using a large steerable kite to pull the kitesurfer around on a board on top of the water and jump high in the air. According to them, Vietnam has so many ideal places for this kind of watersports, and Binh Thuan is considered as the best one. Besides Mui Ne, the sea in Phu Quy island provides a lot of potentialities for the development of windsurfing and kitesurfing. To exploit the advantages of developing sea tourism services, local authorities have focused on investment in marine transport infrastructures, windpower projects, outlined detailed plannings of tourist attractions, which include 5 destinations with different specific products associated with sea economy, sustainable and green tourism development.“Since the island was powered 24/24 and the improvement of transport between Phu Quy and the mainland thanks to 5 passenger ships leaving and arriving in Phu Quy everyday, a large number of visitors are flocking to Phu Quy to enjoy and explore the charming beauty of this outpost island”, said Mr. Ta Minh Nhat-chairman of Phu Quy district’s People’s Committee.

With ceaseless efforts of the people and local government, Phu Quy, step by step, is asserting its attraction to draw more and more tourists. Since the early of the year until now, as many as 30 foreign tourists (mainly came from Australia, Great Britain and Germany) visiting Phu Quy to play windsurfing and kitesurfing at the beaches of Tan Hai and Phu long hamlets (Long Hai commune). The islanders are familiar with the appearance of foreigners walking along the road with watersport equipment.
