In her opening remarks, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan asked the legislature’s offices and the Government’s offices to closely coordinate in completing reports, draft resolutions and draft laws after each part of the working agenda finishes to in time submit them to the NA, as the legislative body’s 10th session will open right after the NA Standing Committee concludes its 49th session.

After the opening ceremony, the NA Standing Committee conducted the supervision over the implementation of free trade agreements (FTAs) to which Vietnam is a signatory under the chair of NA Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong.

The standing committee heard a report by Nguyen Van Giau, Head of the NA Committee for External Relations and deputy head of the NA Standing Committee’s supervision delegation.

NA Vice Chairmen Phung Quoc Hien and Uong Chu Luu, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, Head of the NA Office – NA General Secretary Nguyen Hanh Phuc, Head of the NA Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children Phan Thanh Binh, and Head of the NA Committee for Science, Technology and Environment Phan Xuan Dung also shared their opinions on this issue.

Tong Thi Phong highly valued results of the implementation of FTAs, adding that taking part in FTAs is sound, timely and in line with the foreign policy of multilateralisation and diversification.

The NA Standing Committee’s 49th session will last until October 15 morning. During the session, the committee is set to discuss some debatable issues of the draft revised law on environmental protection and the law on export and import tariffs, a draft NA resolution on the settlement of problems relating to land for denfence and security purposes, and another NA resolution on the organisation of urban administration in Ho Chi Minh City.

Members will look into reports on the implementation of socio-economic development, State budget and public investment plans for 2020 and 2016-2020 and the draft plans for 2021 and 2021-2025.

A report on the implementation of the economic restructuring plan for 2016-2020, another on the realisation of the NA’s Resolution 100/2015/QH13 that approved investment policies for the national target programmes in the 2016-2020 period, and a report summarising voters and people’s opinions submitted to the NA’s 10th session will also among those put on the table.
