NA Chairwoman urges Binh Thuan to improve local economic competitiveness

BTO- A working session between National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and authorities of south central Binh Thuan province was held on March 16th to discuss and review socio-economic situation, Party building and key tasks for the upcoming time.

Reporting at the meeting, Secretary of the Provincial party committee Nguyen Manh Hung represented that: the province has so far accomplished the 2018’s economic targets, increasing by 8.08% compared to 2017. State budget revenue last year exceeded the estimate, while in the first quarter of 2019 collection was estimated at VND 2.7 trillion, reaching 28.4% of the yearly estimate, up 7% compared to the same period in 2018. The total social investment development capital in 2018 was at VND 24 trillion, up 19.8% compared to 2017. Its agro-forestry-fisheries accounted for 30.8 percent, industry-construction slightly moved up to 31 percent and services 38.1 percent.

The province’s Party leader also agreed with the need to build Ka Pet water reservoir to store water during rainy season and provide it for agricultural and industrial production, and local lives, especially amid climate change at present. About ash, cinder and environment treatment at Vinh Tan Power Centre, she said the legislature will oversee ministries’ compliance with legal regulations, national standards and technical guidance on ash and cinder treatment till 2020, as well as offer incentives on technology and funding for the effort. 

Hailing the efforts made by Binh Thuan over the past year, NA Chairwoman Ngan praised the province in identifying the potential industries and areas to focus on, such as clean and renewable energy, tourism and high-tech agriculture, while infrastructure development has been heavily invested in. The top legislator proposed that the province should focus on improving its business investment environment and promoting private economic development, while effectively using the available resources for its socio-economic development. It is necessary to boost the construction of new rural areas in a sustainable way and restructure the agricultural sector in the direction of improving quality, efficiency and added value, she said, stressing the need for promptly handling new problems arising from the grassroots level and maintaining political security and social order.

Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Hung pledged to fix shortcomings in socio-economic development, improve local economic competitiveness, and reform activities of Vietnam Fatherland Front chapter and socio-political organisations. 

Earlier in the same day, Ngan visited and presented gifts to two heroic Vietnamese mothers in Tan Nghia township and Ham My commune.
