UNDP backs USD 300
UNDP backs USD 300,000 to Binh Thuan in favor of
dragon fruit cooperatives
BTO – Delegates from the
United Nations Development Projects (UNDP) arrived in Binh Thuan province on
July 16th morning. Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Tuan
Phong and leaders of relevant agencies welcomed the delegation.
The working session turned
around the impact of Covid-19 pandemic and proposals for supports from the local
cooperatives of dragon fruit in the upcoming time.

At the meeting, Mr. Duong
Van Hung- an official of UNDP said that: from now until the end of 2020, the
UNDP will provide a non-fundable support of USD 300,000 for as many as 10
cooperatives of dragon fruits in Binh Thuan province. Accordingly, the Priority
is placed orderly from the poor, near-poor and ethnic minorities, etc.

On the other hand, the
support must rely on the business and production plans, and priority activities
to revive the dragon fruit production after Covid-19 epidemic. Initially, the
delegation made fact-finding surveys at some dragon fruit cooperatives in Ham
Thuan Nam and Ham Thuan Bac districts. Besides, some cooperatives expect to
reach the supports of marketing and GobalGAP certificates, etc.
Addressing the meeting, Vice
Chairman Phong thanked the attention and support from the UNDP, saying that the
locality would ensure the criteria and transparent distribution of the backing
amount as stipulated.
