Binh Thuan to beef up wildlife conservation

BTO- Chairman of the provincial People’s committee (PPC) has recently had document to request departments/agencies/people’s committees of districts, towns, cities to boost management for wildlife protection, especially sea turtle in the localities.

Accordingly, the document requires not consuming endangered, rare and precious wildlife species, especially sea turtles (one of the most endangered precious and rare wildlife species that shall be given priority to the highest level of protection in Vietnam). The localities, units, individuals must strictly abide by the regulations of the Laws on management and protection of endangered and precious and rare wild animals.

The PPC also urged the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to direct the subordinate units to beef up propaganda and set up plans for regular inspection and control the activity of export, transport, captive breeding, preliminarily processing, processing, advertising, trading and consumption of wildlife, especially sea turtles’ eggs and other marine turtle products and their parts. At the same time, the PPC directed the Hon Cau MPA management board to strengthen the inspection and protection of marine turtles on Hon Cau Island; promptly handle with the cases affecting the breeding activities of the turtles; create favorable conditions for conservation organizations to participate in the protection of sea turtles in the locality.

Local authorities in close collaboration with the functional forces of the Agriculture and Rural Development sector will intensify inspection and supervision of restaurants, markets, business, households for the above-said activities so that the sea turtles can be strictly preserved.
