Binh Thuan to boost preventive measures against Covid-19 as first positive case found

BTO – As soon as the first case of Covid-19 was detected in Binh Thuan province, the Provincial People’s Committee has promptly held urgent conference to timely deploy almost preventive measures to fight against the spread of Sars-CoV-2 in the locality.

At an urgent meeting

According to the Department of Health, Ms. Đ.T.L.T, known as the 34th patient (51 years old), felt ill on March 5th with symptoms of couching and coughing up phlegm. She had fever and sore throat on March 7th despite self-medication. Therefore, she was hospitalized on March 9th morning and tested positive with Covid-19 on the following day. The patient is now receiving treating at the provincial Hospital in stable condition of health.

The patient, 51 year-old women from Binh Thuan province, flew from Vietnam to New York (the US) transiting Incheon (the Republic of Korea) on February 22nd. She took a flight from Washington back to Vietnam on February 29th, with a stopover in Qatar Airport, and entered Vietnam on March 2nd at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

In a prompt report, Director of Binh Thuan department of Health Nguyen Quoc Viet said that, there are 17 people who have been identified as close contact with the patient (known as F1 case). In which, 5 cases of F1 are being isolated at the provincial hospital; other 12 people were taken to 812 Infantry Regiment. All cases of F1’s specimens have been sent to the Pasteur Institute of Nha Trang.

The local Department of Health will keep on reviewing the facilities to respond to the epidemic. At the same time, the local authorities are also setting up lists of F2 cases (people who had contact with F1 cases).

According to the provincial Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Center has quickly activated all quick response teams in every area to monitor cases of F1, F2, and F3 when receiving the 34th patient’s result.

As planned, the CDC is coordinating with localities to isolate those related cases from March 11th. The CDC urged the districts of Ham Thuan Bac and Ham Thuan Nam to deal with the environment where F1 cases are living.

Concluding the meeting, Chairman of the provincial People’s committee urged the authorities to quickly muster with might and main to treat and isolate those suspected cases. The disinfection must be conducted carefully. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism was asked to strictly manage the international tourists in the locality, especially those travelling to or from the epidemic areas.
