Dragon fruit growers get support for farming materials

BTO- The United Nations Development Project (UNDP) has recently coordinated with the Binh Thuan provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to transfer farming materials of the project “Promoting people security – No one left behind through an integrated response to the Covid-19”. Those commodities were handed over to the farmers in Ham Thuan Bac district.

At the event.

At the visited site, the delegation offered a variety of materials including: tablets, laptops, irrigation systems, Led lights, harvesting and post-processing equipment, etc. to the cooperatives of Thuan Tien, Phu Trinh, Thuan Hoa, Phu Hoi, Hong Son and Ham Duc. All the farmers beneficiaries who are cooperatives’ members will supported with fertilizers.

Reportedly, the program was conducted under the 2020 Joint cooperation between the UNDP and the provincial People’s Committee, targeting at addressing difficulties for production and business, ensuring social welfares, and coping with Covid-19 pandemic.

At the beginning of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has badly affected to the dragon fruit cooperatives in terms of production, business, consumption and its revenues. Additionally, the drought which lasted from late 2019 until June 2020 has fueled hardships to the local cooperatives. Therefore, the UNDP’s support has somewhat mitigated the dragon farmers and cooperatives, helping them to revive their investment.
