“Zero dong" Happy Supermarket  comes into operation to ease vulnerable people

BTO- A VND0 happy supermarket has been opened in the provincial Library (Phan Thiet city) on April 22 to provide essential goods for the underprivileged people who are struggling with difficulties due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

The store, which belonged to the program “Zero cost happy supermarket” initiated by the Hanoi-based APEC Group with the aim to help people from less well-off backgrounds overcome challenges in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

On the  first day of operation,  many customers visited this special supermarket for zero cost shopping.

Currently, the zero cost happy supermarket is providing food and other essential  items, such as: rice, sugar, fish sauce, seasoning powder, cooking oil, eggs, instant noodles …Customers coming to this store must undergo body temperature checked and hands sterilization before making sign-up to get a shopping card.

Each customer is allowed to choose 5 products not exceeding VND 100,000 for one shopping time. The program is expected to supply customers with books and clothes in the coming time. Especially, beneficiaries of this program are poor and near poor households.

Mrs Vo Thi Tu from a poor household in Duc Thang ward shared that “I feel very happy and thankful for the program’s support. Thanks to the zero dong supermarket, my family will overcome difficulties and get recovery after the pandemic”.  

Mr. Bui Van Dien- deputy director of IDJ Investment JSC (directly under APEC Group) said that “The model of zero dong Happy Supermarket has been launched to support poor people who are affected by Covid-19 pandemic. The store in  Binh Thuan is the 22nd one opened by APEC Group nationwide”. Dien added that “If poor people in other localities of Binh Thuan also need help, we will set up similar stores or implement “happy trucks” to take goods to needy people within one day”.

The VND0 Happy Supermarket  is scheduled to receive 300 customers/day. For this week only, the store will stay open until Sunday (from 8h00 AM to 5h00 PM). This charitable program is expected to run 1-3 months (operating during working time, from Monday to Friday every week).

APEC Group hopes to call other sponsors in Binh Thuan to make contributions in order to diversify products and extend the supermarket’s operation time. The total costs for zero dong Happy Supermarket chain is sourced from APEC Group’s welfare fund. Apec Group has invested in Apec Mandala Wyndham Muine,  a tourism and relaxation project in Binh Thuan.
