A week-long cultural event to encourage Vietnamese women to wear “Ao Dai”
BTO - As a part of a
national event titled “Ao Dai – Vietnamese Cultural Heritage”, all Vietnamese
women across the country are urged to wear the traditional dress of Ao Dai from
March 2nd – 8th, 2020. The event has been co-launched by
the Vietnam Central Women’s Union in coordination with the Ministry of Culture,
Sport and Tourism. The event aims to honor the beauty and value of “Ao Dai” in
social life, raise individual awareness and arouse people’s pride,
responsibilities in preserving and promoting Vietnamese cultural heritage with
an envision to be recognized as national intangible cultural heritage.
A wide range of cultural
activities related to “Ao Dai” shall be held during the week, including a
national worship “Vietnamese Ao Dai: recognition, customs, value and character”;
“Ao Dai” exhibition; a launching contest of “Ao dai” design and compose; parade
in “Ao Dai” clothing; Art performance; granting “Ao Dai” to disadvantaged women,
and so on. Those activities take place in 5 cities and provinces of Ha Noi, Ho
Chi Minh, Thua Thien Hue, Dak Lak and Can Tho.
In response to this cultural
event, Binh Thuan provincial Women’s Union has called upon its grassroots levels
to encourage local women to wear “Ao Dai” when participating in big events on
Mondays and Fridays. Besides, the “Ao Dai” wearing Week is also responded
throughout the week, contributing to promoting the image of Vietnamese Women
around the world.
