Seminar on renewable energy development in association with environmental protection

BTO- A seminar on renewable energy development associated with environmental protection and responding to climate change was held on August 28 in Phan Thiet city.

At the seminar

The event, which was co-organized by Center for Natural Resources and Environment  Communication (directly under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) and department of Natural Resources and Environment of Binh Thuan province, had the attendance of Mr. Le Quoc Trung- Chief Inspector -Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung-Director of Center for Natural Resources and Environment Communication, leaders of departments, branches, agencies, organizations and localities in Binh Thuan province.

According to reports presented at the seminar, fossil fuels, such as: coal, oil and natural gas are playing a dominant role in electricity generation for the whole country, but they are gradually running out. For that reason, the development of renewable power, especially wind power, solar power, is considered as an inevitable trend of future energy in Vietnam in general and in Binh Thuan in particular. Currently, renewable power sources account for 24% of the global energy supplies and are expected to meet 30% and 50% in 2030 and 2050.

With the highest potential for developing renewable energy in Vietnam (dry and windy climate, sunny weather..),  Binh Thuan has attracted 20 wind power projects, with 3 operational wind power plants (total capacity of 60MW and an output of 140 million kWh per year), 95 solar power projects (21 plants have been put into operation with a total capacity of 1.76 billion kWh per year).

In addition, delegates have discussed about advantages and obstacles in the development of renewable energy in Binh Thuan in order to boost the sustainable development of the clean energy sources in combination with  environmental protection.
