Binh Thuan to lure foreign NGOs assistance for mid, long-term projects

BTO- According to department of Planning & Investment, in period 2015-2019, the provincial authorities have accepted 27 new programs/projects of froreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs), with a total value of nearly USD 5.4 million.

Reportedly, many of NGOs operating in Binh Thuan are from France, Germany, Sweden, Canada, USA, the Netherlands, Swizerland, and the United Nations’ development program (UNDP). In Binh Thuan, NGOs-funded programs/projects have given localities assistance to boost socioeconomic development, deal with difficulties in many fields, such as: health care, education, training, natural resources, environment…

Over the past time, authorities at all levels in Binh Thuan have paid special attention to the mobilization and management of international organizations. Those organizations have also well complied with the State’s regulations on the management and use of NGOs’ aid, ensuring the country’s stability and security. At the same time, the activities in programs/projected have been carried out in accordance with the set plans and the province’s orientations.

Department of Planning & Investment lately sent the provincial People’s Committee a proposal on expansion operation registration for NGOs  in the coming time.

In 2019, the province’s authorities accepted 6 new projects with a total fund of more than USD 817,200. Particularly, community development projects in Ham Thuan Nam (period 2019-2023) and Duc Linh (period January, 2020 – December 2024) are funded by Mekong Plus (France). At the same time, the human trafficking prevention project will be deployed in Phan Thiet city during the time from 2019 to 2021, with the assistance of  Dasatt CLG (Ireland). Besides, Terre des Hommes – Germany has carried out a project of supporting measures to improve the situation of children labour in a number of communes/wards in Phan Thiet city (period 2019-2024). In Tuy Phong district, the project of building a communication center for Hon Cau Marine Protected Area (period 2019-2020) is under the implementation. This project is sponsored by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and other organizations (about 80% of the total cost). This year, the provincial center for natural disasters prevention and relief also received a supplement aid for set of communication equipment (period 2019-2020) from a humanitarian aid project.

For 2020, Binh Thuan has set the orientation to mobilize assistance for mid-term and long-term projects in support of production in agriculture, forestry, fishery in association with poverty reduction and improving residents’ income. The locality will also attract projects to help local education, health care sectors, dealing with climate change, natural disasters…in mountainous and outlying areas.
