Binh Thuan: Export activities uphold its stability

BTO - Due to the complicated situation of the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide, Binh Thuan’s export activities have been somewhat affected. In May 2020, the province's export turnover of goods reached USD 34.84 million, increasing by 0.17 percent against that of the previous month, decreasing by 13.52 percent compared to the same period last year.

In particular, group of aquatic products is estimated at USD 11.59 million, a month-on-month decrease of 3.01 percent and a year-on-year increase of 2.96 percent; whereas agricultural products were estimated at USD 0.70 million, shrinking by 21.89 percent and 0.97 percent over the previous month and year, respectively; Miscellaneous commodity group has generated some USD 22.55 million, surging by 2.80% over the previous month, and making a reduction of 20.39 percent over a year ago.

Accumulated in the first 5 months of 2020, Binh Thuan's export turnover saw an income of USD 176.45 million, a year-on-year increase of 1.33 percent. Of which, a group of aquatic products is estimated at USD 54.55 million, rising by 8.07 percent year-on-year. 

Garment export activity

A number of seafood exporters still have export contracts, although the Covid-19 pandemic is still complicated in many countries. Agricultural products fetched up USD 4.62 million, a year-on-year rise of 6.50 percent. Rubber latex products, as of now, still can not be exported; however, the local dragon fruit products saw an optimistic sight as it can enter the markets of Canada, China, the United Arab Emirates, and Australia. In the meantime, the miscellaneous commodity group posted USD 117.28 million, declining by 1.71 percent in the same period, which mainly affected by the drop of footwear and raw materials for shoe production.

With respect to the import sector in the first 5 months of 2020, it is reported a big decrease of 51.40 percent over the same period last year.  

Overall, Binh Thuan's export turnover of goods in the first 5 months claims a moderate increase compared to the same period last year despite being affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. From June 2020 onwards, the Covid-19 pandemic will be prevented and pushed away from some countries and territories. Moreover, social distancing orders in some countries will be also lifted, fostering Vietnam’s exportation volume and Binh Thuan’s export turnover in this month.
