Binh Thuan: dragon fruit’s prices tripled within only 3 days

BTO – Over the past 3 consecutive days, prices of dragon fruit in Binh Thuan province have sharply surged up to 3 times higher than that of previous time. Together with the less output of ripe dragon fruit and the expansion of consumption markets excepting China, its price has suddenly soared.

At Mr. Truong Ba Toan’s dragon-fruit garden in Ham Hiep commune (Ham Thuan Bac district), he sold his 900 tons of ripe dragon fruit at the price up to VND 15,000 per kg, double higher than what he expected earlier. The higher prices cheered both the farmers and traders at this time.

From Feb 16th onwards, the prices of Binh Thuan dragon fruit have continuously increased. Specifically, 3 days before, many farm-owners felt extremely worried about their unsold ripe dragon-fruit. But now, the prices have tripled from VND 5,000 per kg to VND 15,000 and some up to VND 18,000 per kg.

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hien – a trader in Ham Thuan Bac said that: “the prices have just upturned since about 3 days ago, from the bottom-up price of only VND 5,000 per kg.”

Mr. Vo Huy Hoang – President of Binh Thuan dragon fruit Association confirmed that the locality has activities expanded consumption markets to other countries and territories outside China due to the impact of Covid-19.

Since the early Feb 2019, Binh Thuan dragon fruit has entered many strict markets such as: India, Singapore, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and so on, helping mitigate the slump of dragon fruit consumption market.

In addition, the province has also connected with many distribution units to boost the consumption of such fruit inside the country, avoiding to depend so much on Chinese market.
