Binh Thuan urges its citizens to install Covid-19 tracing app Bluezone

BTO – The People’s Committee of Binh Thuan province has issued documents urging its subordinate agencies/departments/localities and businesses to promptly install Covid-19 tracing app Bluezone under the spiritual Document No. 2841/BTTTT-THH dated August 1st, 2020 of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC).

Bluezone app was developed by tech firm Bkav

Accordingly, the People Committees of districts/communes/townlet/city ordered their staffs and employees to download Bluezone, a locally-developed contact-tracing app to identify and alert people who have interacted with COVID-19 patients, as of 11AM on August 11.

As of August 11, the whole province has seen some 104,674 smartphone users installing Bluezone, accounting for 8.5 percent of the country’s population, position at 34/63 nationwide. Of the total, Phan Thiet city is placed the first with the highest rate smartphone users downloading the app, at 15 percent with 34,307 users.

The Department of Information and Communications directed the local press agencies to guide the locals how to download and install the apps. In an online meeting earlier this month, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed that each citizen is a soldier and each house, hamlet, and residential area is a fortress in the fight against the pandemic.

A helpful app for both users and health authorities

Reportedly, Bluezone app was developed by tech firm Bkav, which uses Bluetooth Low Energy, a wireless personal area network technology, to link with smartphones within a two-meter distance. It is helpful for the health authorities as it can identify those who had close contact with a Covid-19 patient (known as F0 person). The system will alert them about the risk of infection to those who had close contact with F1.  Moreover, they will be also provided with instructions on contacting health authorities for assistance.

The app is completely confidential, anonymous, and transparent, as it only stores data on users’ phones and does not transfer information or locations to the system.

The development of Bluezone was overseen by MIC and the Ministry of Health (MoH). It was launched on April 18. For more details on the app Bluezone, please feel free to access to the site https://www.bluezone.gov.vn
