3 rice ATMs in support of the poor in Phan Thiet city

BTO -  Another 2 “rice ATMs” were set up in Phan Thiet city on April 17 to dispense free rice to the poor and those under difficult circumstances to survive the Covid-19 pandemic.

The first machine was installed in the campus of Ham Tien ward’s people’s committee, with 4 tons of rice in stock. Each family can get 3 kilos of rice from it per day. The machine is also receiving rice supported by local residents to keep its continuous operation.

The second rice ATM also commenced operation on the same day in front of the house of Mrs Chau Thi Ngoc Duc (Nguyen Van Troi street - Duc nghia ward). Each family can collect 5 kilos of rice for one touch on the machine’s button. All people coming to the machines to receive free rice are requested to wear face masks, stand two-meter apart from others, and sanitize their hands before pressing the buttons to get rice. As reported, this rice ATM will offer support to 600 poor and near poor households in 8 inlying wards of Phan Thiet city. After one day of operation, the machine has received 10 tons of rice to take rice dispensation for the poor (6 tons of which were donated by family of Mrs. Chau Thi Ngoc Duc)


Earlier, on April 13, a similar machine was put into operation in Mui Ne ward to assist disadvantaged people amid nationwide social distancing in prevention Covid-19 epidemic.
